Karel Kunc

Totemy, 2022

objekt, dubové dřevo, kramle, provazy, barvy | 270 x 150 x 120 cm

Karel Kunc and his experimental work defies unambiguous classification. He works as a lecturer of ceramics and painting and is often forced to his own artistic activity by a momentary tremor of struggle with the feeling of inner emptiness, a desire for the enjoyment of painting or sculptural work and an experience of something archetypally magical, shamanic. Logically, inspiration often comes to him during his stay in nature, during walks and games with children. He likes to experiment with new materials and transcend the boundaries of traditional artistic disciplines.

OFF THE WALL

INTERNATIONAL STREET ART PROJECT

OFF THE WALL is a unique project celebrating modern art in the public space of the Lesser Town Embankment and protecting this magical place right in the historical centre of Prague in the Lesser Town, a short walk from Charles Bridge and the renowned Museum of Modern Art - Museum Kampa.

Our goal is to offer artists an inspiring environment for artistic creation and mutual interaction while working at the same venue. We bring live painting, entertainment and valuable artistic experiences to the audience. At the same time, we are actively protecting the clean walls in these beautiful romantic places from the devastating vandalism of illegal graffiti.

The zero edition of the unique show of domestic and world street art, graffiti, murals, sculptures, objects and installations took place from 26 to 28 August 2022 with the participation of 25 artists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Holland, Great Britain, Ireland and Argentina. The project also included specialized workshops led by experienced artists, expert lectures and painting for the public.

During the three-day event, the historically first "sticker wall" in Prague was created, the author of which is Jitka Kopejtková. A total of 37 artists from 17 countries – Germany, Brazil, Italy, Russia, Indonesia, Granada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, New Zealand, Peru, Sweden, Austria, USA, Poland, Czech Republic, France and Spain – collaborated on this work remotely.

# All paintings and collages have been created on a special, elastic and very durable material, which was developed by experts exclusively for the street art project Off the Wall. The surface of this material is indistinguishable similar in structure to the surface of a wall with a delicate stucco plaster.
